Age 17

    Service Entrepreneur

Justin will be a senior in Fall 2008 at William Taft High School in Woodland Hills.  He is co-captain of the
boy's varsity basketball team and has worked his way up through the ranks since his freshman year as a
varsity reserve player to a starter within two years.  Justin has learned the importance of leadership and
being a team player

For Justin, being a leader means setting the bar of excellence for others to follow, to facilitate the
execution of plays, to get others involved in the game plan.  Being a team player means contributing ideas,
learning and executing the game plans of others and being supportive of others to keep them in the mix.
Justin is also a member of Young Black Scholars.

The Summer after his freshman year, Justin has the opportunity to participate in a leadership program
held at American University in Washington, DC.  Part of the program involved his working within a group to
develop a business plan to reorganize a failing business.  He learned a lot about developing a business model
and working within a group in which everyone shared their individual expertise, knowledge and energy to
work toward the goal of saving the business.

Justin has been working on his own business of washing neighbor's cars and collecting recycled items.  His
brother, Marcus, works with him occasionally and is also a young entrepreneur attending the 2008 Summer
Buzz on Biz Academy. He has certain customers who save recycled containers that he has provided to
them.  Justin has weekly pick-ups, which provides him with a steady stream of income.

Justin will attend the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) in Fall 2009 on a basketball scholarship,
and plans to major in Hotel Management.  His plan is to become a property owner while in college.

Justin learned about the 2008 Summer Buzz on Biz Academy through his mother, Carmen Hawkins, and
brother, Marcus, as he accompanied them at the orientation.  During the orientation, his entrepreneurial
energy began to flow.  He saw how participating in the program would provide him with the foundation to
jump start developing his business plan for owning rental property and running summer sports camps.  Justin
also works with his brother, Marcus, in his special events support services business.

Justin looks forward to learning what it takes to develop a successful business, as well as developing a
website and producing a commercial.  He will bring his ideas, energy, and wit to help other participants and
himself in the pursuit of their respective dreams, aspirations, and goals.
