Get the Buzz on  Alex Vaughan
As you can see, we have lots of fun in the
Academy!

Let me be the first to say "
Welcome" to the
2008 Summer Buzz on Biz Academy; designed
for young entrepreneurs ages 14-27 who have
demonstrated a passionate interest in developing
and growing part-time businesses across several
industries.  These industries include:
e
ntertainment, fashion, food, service, and
technology
.  The Youth Entrepreneurial Program
(YEP) is funded through the California Community
Colleges Chancellor's Office from Career Technical
Education (CTE) funds.

Not only are the young people expressing great
interest and are showing up each week to get the
tools that will forever change their young lives but,
what is even more impressive and heartfelt, the
participants' parents have been involved since the
day of orientation, May 31, 2008.  Some parents
even choose to remain in the Academy
throughout the session and take part in the
activities! Of course, they are welcome to do so!

Aside from being the Director for the Small
Business Development Center, I teach college level
- credit and non-credit courses to students ages
18 to over 60!  The topics vary from marketing
and advertising to management and event
planning.  These topics have been folded into the
Emerging Young Entrepreneur curriculum I
deliver as a facilitator in the Academy.  Justs as
important, Mr. Darick Simpson, who is a mentor
and facilitator in the Academy, adds value to the
program by delivering
StrengthsQuest
introduction and application tools.  This material
helps the entrepreneurs identify their top five
strengths or "natural talents" so they can operate
in their strengths as they develop, grow, and
successfully run their respective businesses.

Ms. Nancy Cisneros is the Program Assistant, and
as been very instrumental in the planning and
execution of the Academy and is present each
Saturday to welcome her peers.

Ms. LauraLee Garinger, Ms. Alin Sanchez, and
Ms. Martha Cisneros
make significant
contributions throughout the week in preparation
for each session.
